WELCOME TO THE VOID, started as an exercise on serial writing, on my ATC3 notebook (Analysis and Composition Techniques), with the original name of TRIO DA NOITE („NIGHT TRIO“), but which ended up being premiered in an exhibition of composition students a few months later (end of 2012). Its premiere was funny, because at the last minute unforeseen events happened with the cellist, but with some luck we managed to move forward with the debut, by making a last-minute substitution for a bassoon, played by bassoonist and maestro Paulo Martins.

It was only a few years later, in 2017, that the piece was played again, this time in the auditorium of DeCA (Department of Communication and Art of the University of Aveiro), by a string trio, made up by Tiago Melo and Rui Barroca on the violins, and Alberto Barroso on the cello (although, using a second violin instead of viola, as initially planned). It was in this concert presentation that the work emerged with its current name "WELCOME TO THE VOID", which initially referred only to the 3rd movement of the piece.

This is one of the few pieces that I wrote directly on paper and that I never found it necessary to change or review, thus keeping it in its original form.
